Hualien Jade DIY

An easy train or bike ride from Hualien will take you to a jade

workshop where you can learn about Taiwanese jade and make your

own piece of jewelry!

The Lu Fung Jade Workshop is located in Shoufeng, a 25-minute train ride going south from the Hualien train station.

The train trip costs approximately 25 yuan (less than US$1 ).

Once at the Shaofeng train station, a 5-minute taxi ride to the workshop will cost about 120 yuan.

Or, you can take your bicycle on the train and easily make the trip from the station to the workshop yourself.

The workshop is located on Bike Trail #42.

The workshop will be happy to call a taxi for your return to the train station.

The workshop includes a small museum with information about the different types of Taiwanese jade

and examples of sculptures and jewelry for sale,

but the highlight of the visit is the opportunity to make your own piece of jade jewelry.

For NT$450, you choose a piece of unpolished jade and go through the 5 steps of polishing to create a beautiful, small pendant.

The workshop provides necklaces or lanyards for you to display your finished piece.

The workshop is happy to host solo travelers, though can easily accommodate groups.

Reservations are suggested.

Children as young as 7 can participate.

It is closed on Tuesdays, otherwise open from 9-5 pm.
